According to Asian astrology, your year of birth — and the animal this represents — reveals plenty about your personality.

People born during the Rooster’s reign (1909, 1921, 1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005 and 2017) are known for being observant, heroic and responsible.

There is a new moon today, which means that the Lunar New Year has commenced! The first day of the Lunar New Year is celebrated on the first New Moon between 21 January and 20 February, at least on the Gregorian calendar. Since the new year starts on a different date each year, those interested in Chinese astrology, when born in January or February, need to check a bit closer when it comes to the year they were born for accuracy.

Chinese New Year, also known as the “Spring Festival” (simplified Chinese 春节; traditional Chinese 春節; Pinyin: Chūn Jié) in modern Mainland China, is an important Chinese festival celebrated at the turn of the traditional lunisolar  / Chinese calendar . Celebrations traditionally run from the evening preceding the first day, to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first calendar month. The first day of the New Year falls on the new moon between 21 January and 20 February.  In 2017, the first day of the Chinese New Year is on Saturday, 28 January, initiating the year of the Rooster.

The New Year festival is centuries old and gains significance because of several myths and traditions. Traditionally, the festival was a time to honor deities as well as ancestors.Chinese New Year is celebrated in countries and territories with significant Chinese populations, including Mainland China, Hong Kong(officially Lunar New Year),  MacauTaiwan, Singapore,  Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Mauritius and Australia, Chinese New Year is considered a major holiday for the Chinese and has had influence on the lunar new year celebrations of its geographic neighbors.

Within China, regional customs and traditions concerning the celebration of the Chinese New Year vary widely. Often, the evening preceding Chinese New Year’s Day is an occasion for Chinese families to gather for the annual reunion dinner. It is also traditional for every family to thoroughly cleanse the house, in order to sweep away any ill-fortune and to make way for good incoming luck. Windows and doors will be decorated with red color paper-cuts and couplets with popular themes of “good fortune” or “happiness”, “wealth”, and “longevity”. Other activities include lighting firecrackers and giving money in red paper envelopes. Among about one third of the Mainland population, or 500 million Northerners, dumplings (especially those of vegetarian fillings) feature prominently in the meals celebrating the festival.  Source: Wikipedia

Anti-abortion extremists are marching today in Washington, D.C. Help us speak out and fight back against the “alternative facts” (aka lies) they tell to deny women abortion care.

Dear Dru,

When it comes to spinning “alternative facts” (aka lies), Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway and the anti-abortion movement are a match made in heaven.

Conway may have first used the term last week, but the anti-abortion movement has been using alternative facts for years. Fittingly, she is also a featured speaker at the annual anti-abortion rights “March for Life” today, alongside Vice President Mike Pence.

At the National Partnership, we know that anti-abortion extremists peddle lies about abortion care and then turn those lies into laws that hurt women and push care out of reach. That’s exactly why we launched our Lies Into Laws campaign last year.

We must stand strong. Sign our petition: Say NO to alternative facts and abortion opponents who turn lies into laws »

And it doesn’t stop with reproductive rights. These days, the Trump administration is starting to sound a lot like George Orwell’s 1984. It’s terrifying but true.

Renaming lies as alternative facts …
repeating those lies over and over again …
trying to silence the media …
preferring fake news over intelligence briefings …
taunting world leaders with reckless tweets …
prioritizing corporations over citizens …
repealing protections for women and families …

It’s. Just. Too. Much.

Tell the Trump administration that alternative facts are nothing more than bald-faced lies.

While Kellyanne Conway and the Trump administration may be content to live in their post-truth world, the devastating impact of anti-abortion lies on women’s access to care is all too real.

That’s why we must strand strong and fight back. It’s the only way to ensure 2017 doesn’t turn into 1984.

Please sign our “Alternative Facts = Lies” petition today.

Thank you,
